Cavalier Families,

Jenkins Independent has been approved for Non-Traditional Instruction, or NTI, days for the 2018-2019 school year. By following this plan, we now have the option of making up snow days (10), instead of adding on days to the end of the school year. Students are expected to complete meaningful assignments and activities at home on snow days to count toward instructional time.

What is Non-Traditional Instruction?

A non-traditional instructional (NTI) day is a district declared day when learning and instruction will continue, yet students will not report to school.  Learning will take place utilizing technology or conventional paper packets focusing on skill enhancement, remediation and/or enrichment. Please note, not every school cancellation day will be an NTI day.

How will Instructional Materials be Provided?

Students with Internet access will be able to complete work at home (or from another location) using educational programs familiar to the student. If a student doesn’t have Internet access, paper copies of assignments will be provided.  Additional information regarding assignments may be located on the school web page, newsletters and email.

NTI Day Procedures

  1. Once the decision has been made for an NTI Day, families will be contacted via All Call.

  2. Faculty will maintain an online presence between the hours of 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, and 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

  3. Teachers may be contacted via email, Google Classroom, Class Dojo, etc and will respond to student and/or parent questions during the designated hours.

  4. Online assignments should be completed each NTI day; and, paper assignments should be turned in the next day of school.

.

(All elementary students will complete assignments in Reading, Writing, Math, Science and Social Studies; all Middle-High school students will complete assignments depending upon their daily scheduled classes.)

Students are required to complete all tasks assigned during a NTI day.  Extended time will be available for those circumstances whereby the work could not be completed due to extenuating circumstances (loss of power, lost packet, etc).

We are excited about this opportunity and appreciate your support making every minute count toward learning!

Thanks in advance for your cooperation!
