COUNSELOR'S CORNER

Ms. Candi Richardson

Students’ mental and emotional health is just as important as their physical health. We want our students to know that they are loved and that they can succeed in anything they set their minds to.

There are some academic/career goals that we want our students to reach before they graduate. In order for a student to be considered “academic ready”, a student must benchmark on the ACT in Math and at least Reading or English.

The benchmark score for English in the state of Kentucky is 18.

The benchmark score for Math in the state of Kentucky is 19.

The benchmark score for Reading in the state of Kentucky is 20.

The benchmark score for Science in the state of Kentucky is 23.

A student may also earn academic ready status by…

  1. Taking 6 hours of KDE-approved dual credit and earning a grade of C or higher. OR...

  2. Taking 2 Advanced Placement (AP) courses and scoring at least a 3 on each exam. OR...

  3. Taking 2 International Baccalaureate (IB) courses and scoring at least a 5 on each exam. OR...

  4. Taking 2 Cambridge Advanced International exams and scoring at least benchmark. OR…

To be considered “Career Ready”, a student must…

  1. Pass an industry certification test in his/her pathway of classes either taken at their home high school or at the vocational school. A student must pass and have 2 credits on their transcript, while enrolled in a 3rd class in their pathway to be considered “preparatory.” OR...

  2. Score at or above the benchmark score on the Career and Technical Education End-of-Program (EOP) assessment for articulated credit. OR...

  3. Take six hours of KDE-approved Career and Technical Education dual credit and score a grade of C or higher in each course. OR...

  4. Complete a KDE Labor Cabinet approved apprenticeship. OR…

  5. Complete a KDE-approved alternate process to verify exceptional work experience.
