
As we return to school virtually tomorrow, teachers will be available through google meets beginning at noon with extra tutoring either virtually or in person also available. Students should schedule tutoring with their teacher. This is a short grading period with only three weeks of instruction left before Christmas Break. Students will still have five days to complete virtual assignments, there will not be any extended make up opportunities this grading period, so do not fall behind with assignments. Contact teachers or the school with any concerns.

As we return to virtual instruction on Monday, November, 23rd, virtual class meetings will begin at noon and follow the same schedule we were on before in person instruction began. Virtual class meetings will be required of all students at Jenkins Middle High School. Classes will meet virtually Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Teachers will also be available virtually for tutoring from 9:30 - 10:30 those days. Contact your teacher to set up virtual tutoring if needed. There will be an assignment each Wednesday, but there will not be a virtual class meeting. Due to COVID guidelines there will be no in person tutoring at this time.

In compliance with Governor Beshear's executive order, Jenkins Independent will continue with in-person instruction Thursday and Friday of this week before transitioning to virtual instruction on Monday. This will allow us to provide students with the devices and materials they need for virtual learning.

All middle school boys basketball games this week have been canceled. Practice will be at 3:30 this week.

There will be archery practice in the Jenkins Middle High School cafeteria tomorrow, Tuesday November, 17 beginning at 4:00 P.M. and Wednesday November, 18th beginning at 1:00 P.M.

Senior Kristin Thacker signed to play basketball for Alice Lloyd College. Kristin excels on the court and off. Kristin takes college classes and was recently recognized as a WYTM Mountain Student Achiever. We are proud of our Cavalier and know she will represent us well.

Just a reminder that in person instruction begins tomorrow, November 4th, in the Jenkins Independent Schools. Buses will run regular routes in the morning. Class begins at 7:55 A.M. at Jenkins Middle High School and 7:45 at Burdine Elementary, If you are dropping your student off please do so no earlier that 7:20 at the Elementary and 7:30 at the Middle High School. The early start is due to the state mandating a 7 hour instructional day with the shortened school year.

If your child rode the bus last year and they are planning to ride the bus this year, they will need to be at the bus stop 10 to 15-minutes earlier, since school will take up earlier this year. Please make sure your child has a mask to wear on the bus and to school everyday. We appreciate your patience with our bus drivers as we iron out all the issues and schedules for our new bus routes.


Congratulations to the Burdine Elementary School Academic Team and Mrs. Gilliam on their first victory!! Our team competed in a virtual Quick Recall meet academic meet today against Arlee Boggs and came out winning 4-3! Good job guys! Keep up the hard work!!


The Jenkins Independent Schools will be offering in person remediation to students on October 28th, 29th, 30th and November 2nd. This is to let students catch up on overdue work from the 1st grading period. School buses will begin picking students up at 7:00 A.M. and school will begin at 8:00 A.M. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. If you are dropping off your student. please do so by the front door between 7:45 A.M. and 8:00 A.M. Students are advised to bring a bottle of water, their chrome book fully charged, and a mask. Masks will be provided if you don't have one. If you plan on attending and haven't been contacted please call the school.

We are at the end of the first nine weeks grading period. All work must be turned in by November 3rd to receive credit.


Good luck to our Girls Cross Country team at their Regional Meet at Lykins Park in Winchester this Saturday. The team is looking for back to back State appearances.

There will be middle school boy's basketball sign-ups Monday at 6:00 in the JMHS Lobby. Any boy in grades 5th through 8th who are interested in playing, please come at this time. Remember to wear a mask and social distance. If you have any questions you can contact Coach Kevin Johnson.

Any girl in grades seven through twelve who are interested in playing High School Girls Basketball meet at the High School tomorrow October 20th at 4:00 pm.

Fall Break is Thursday, October 22 through Tuesday, October 27, 2020. School will resume on Wednesday, October 28.


Sign-ups for High School Boy's Basketball will be held Tuesday, October 20th at 6:00 pm at the high school football field. Any boy interested in playing high school basketball needs to attend. If you are interested in playing, but cannot attend the meeting, contact Coach Hairston at 859-556-7760 or Coach Potter at 634-9743. Also, remember to wear a mask and to social distance during the meeting.
