Students of Jenkins Independent School will return in-person on Monday, August 23. Students and staff are required to wear masks in the building and on buses. Frequent breaks from masks will be provided. Additional measures in sanitizing and increased social distancing will be in place. Our meal times will be structured to allow for adequate social distancing. We appreciate our families and community for your support and ask that you continue to work with us. Our goal is to continue in-person instruction in a safe and healthy environment. Please call our Central Office or your child's school office if you need assistance or have further questions. Dear Cavalier Families, It is my goal to be transparent with our stakeholders as we navigate through this difficult time. As mentioned before, we have been notified by the Kentucky River District Health Department of two positive cases of COVID-19, both in the middle high school building. These two cases have resulted in a significant number of quarantines. We are in regular daily communication with health department officials. I have heard from various sources that there may be other possible cases, but none have been substantiated through the health department at this time. If and when that occurs, we will notify those that need to quarantine immediately. We have no known cases of transmission occurring within our buildings. However, out of an abundance of caution, we have decided that our best course of action at this time is to suspend school through Monday, August 23rd. That timeframe will allow all students to be out of school the required time for quarantine and will allow us to put additional processes and procedures in place to reduce exposure. These days are not NTI. They are simply days out of the calendar. In his address today, Governor Andy Beshear issued an executive order that all individuals, including teachers, staff, students, and visitors, must cover their nose and mouth with a face covering when indoors in all public and private preschool, Head Start, elementary, middle and high schools in Kentucky, regardless of vaccination status. Jenkins Independent Schools will comply with this order. I know that this is difficult for many, especially our younger students. Once we return to school on August 23rd, rest assured that ample opportunities will be provided for students to remove their masks outside during scheduled mask breaks. We are also working to create an outdoor classroom at each campus to allow for additional breaks. I know that this is a difficult time for all of you and many of our families and students are frustrated. We share those sentiments. Just know that we care about your children and the staff of Jenkins Schools will do our very best to keep your children safe while striving to provide them with the best possible education.

Out of an abundance of caution due to increased community spread, there will be no school in the Jenkins Independent School district tomorrow, Tuesday, August 10th.

As reported yesterday, Jenkins Schools was notified by the Kentucky River District Health Department of positive cases of COVID-19 in the Jenkins Middle High School building. There were two cases only, and they were from the same household. There are no known cases at Burdine Elementary School. At this time, only the 6th grade class and 8th grade class are under quarantine, unless you were directly contacted. All other students can come to school on a regular schedule. If under quarantine, you should monitor for symptoms and be tested should symptoms occur. Students can take the PCR test (not rapid test) on day 5 of quarantine and can return after a negative test. Otherwise, quarantined students can return on day 10, which would be August 17th.

Friday, August 13, 2021 MCHC will be doing sports physicals at the JMHS campus. Any Jenkins student who plans on participating in sports this year can pick up a physical at the front desk at JMHS. Physicals need to be completely filled out by parent/guardian and returned to Mrs. Addington by Friday 13th for MCHC Nurse to complete the physical.

Mountain Comprehensive Health Care will be at Jenkins Middle High School during Open House today from 3:30 - 6:00. COVID-19 vaccinations will be available at no cost for all eligible students, staff, and community members. Vaccinations will also be offered tomorrow at Burdine Elementary School during open house from 4:00 - 6:00. The Moderna and Pfizer vaccine will be available.

Jenkins Middle High school will have Open House Monday, August 2. Sixth grade is invited to come in at 3:30 with grades 7-12 starting at 4 and lasting until 6. Burdine Elementary will have Open House on Tuesday, August 3 from 4 until 6. Parents will be able to get an Infinite Campus Parent Portal account that will enable them to keep check on their students progress throughout the year. We do recommend that everyone wear a mask.

The lunch bus will be running both routes today. Leaving JMHS at 11:00 to McRoberts and at 12:30 Burdine Route.

Starting a new school year can be exciting, fun, and EXPENSIVE! The Jenkins Independent School District would like to let all our families know that we are not putting a supply list out this year! This year our students will have school supplies provided for them! At our Back to School Bash on Thursday, July 29th starting at 10:00 am in the Jenkins City Park our students can pick up their backpacks, a few supplies, and a pool pass, the rest of their supplies will be ready for them at school when we return to in person classes on Wednesday, August 4th!

Please don't forget...We would like to invite all NEW little CAVS to our event this tomorrow. Students will have the opportunity to get acquainted with our staff, the building, and even our buses. We would love to open this up for all of our new students that would like to get some jitters out of the way all while having fun! Students will take a tour, meet staff, play on the playground, get familiar with a bus then take a short trip on their bus to the high school and back, participate in some fun crafts, and even have a bite of lunch! We will ask that parents bring students inside for drop off, we will get some information from our families, then send them on their way; you will pick your student up from the lunchroom door just as we do on a regular school day. Please have your student at Burdine at 9:00 and you may come and get them at 1:00. We are looking forward to seeing you tomorrow.

Back to School Bash July 29, 2021 10 am till 2 pm

Our Cavs are one in a “melon”! We would like to encourage all our students and their families to attend our Melon Patch tomorrow at Burdine 1:00 to 3:00! All students in the Jenkins School District are welcome, students will have fresh fruits and vegetables plus some summer reading fun! We would like to extend a special invitation to all our new Cavs, upcoming and newly enrolled students are welcome too!

High school boys basketball, girls basketball, and volleyball will all be having open gym/weight lifting this week. The schedules are as follows: Boys Basketball - Tuesday 7:30 - 9:00, Wednesday Thursday Friday 2:30 - 4:30 Girls Basketball - Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday, 4:00-6:00 Volleyball - Monday Tuesday Thursday Friday, 6:30-8:30 Any student grades 7-12 interested in playing should show up at those times.

Superintendent Damian Johnson presented Kimber Collins with a trophy for winning the 2021 National Archery Championship in the Elementary Girls Division. Kimber will be competing at the World Competition which will be held in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on June 10 and 11.

The Jenkins Independent School District would like to invite all our students to our Big Bash Summer Feeding Drive Through this Friday, May 28th from 1:00 until 3:00. We will have lots of fresh vegetables, a watermelon patch, fun-filled goodie bags, and meal bags for next week will also be available for pick-up. We would like to remind our families that we will not deliver meals the week of the Memorial Day holiday. Thank you!
