Students in Mrs. Hubbard's science classes at Jenkins Middle High recently put their physics knowledge to the test with the classic Egg Drop Challenge. The experiment proved to be a big success, combining hands-on learning with a little friendly competition.
Students were tasked with designing a protective carrier for a raw egg, which was then dropped from a second-story window. The goal was to build a device that could protect the egg from the forces of gravity, drag, and impact.
Throughout the project, students learned about key scientific principles, including:
Kinetic Energy and Momentum: Understanding how a falling object's speed and momentum increase.
Force and Impact: The difference between a sharp, destructive force and a gradual, cushioned impact.
Engineering and Design: The importance of building a structure that can absorb and distribute force effectively.
Many of the creative designs successfully protected their eggs, proving that a little physics know-how can go a long way. As you can tell from the pics, some eggs cracked but students shared smiles and learning over broken shells! The successful project was a great reminder that learning can be challenging and a lot of fun.
Jenkins Schools appreciates Mrs. Hubbard for her dedication and thoughtful approach to making science fun. She's a legend!
