Students in Azure Wright's classes had a blast today, working with the Texas Instruments Rovers! In just ONE DAY, the students learned to code and run the programs necessary to move the rovers through a difficult obstacle course!

Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program

Burdine Elementary has been awarded a Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP)

USDA grant. The grant is administered by USDA and the Division of School and Community Nutrition, KDE and coordinated by Jenkins Independent School District Child Nutrition Services.

A fresh fruit or vegetable snack will be provided for all students at least three days each week dependent upon availability of fruits and vegetables and the duration of the grant monies.

Jenkins Independent Local Planning Committee to Host Public Forum

The Jenkins Independent Local Planning Committee will hold a public forum at 6:00 PM on Thursday March 29th at the JHMS library.

  • Participants entered into a drawing for 2 basketball goals to be given away at the conclusion of each camp
Summer Feeding

The Jenkins Independent School District is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.

Preschool, Headstart, Kindergarten Registration

Jenkins Independent School in collaboration with Jenkins LKLP Headstart will hold registration on April 11, 2017 from 3-5 pm.  Registration will be for next year’s preschool, Headstart and Kindergarten age children.  Registration will be held at Jenkins Elementary School. The Letcher County Health Department will be available for pre-enrollment physicals. Jenkins Independent Schools would like to welcome new Superintendent Mike Genton.  An educator for 21 years, Mr. Genton comes to us from Trimble County Schools in Bedford, KY, where he worked the past 17 years as a teacher, coach, asst. principal, and principal.

Jenkins Wins Regional Semi-Finals

Jenkins Lady Cavaliers defeated Powell County by a score of 67-58 in the 14th Regional semi-finals game.  The Lady Cavs fell to Leslie County in the championship game, ending a terrific season.  Thanks to all the fans for your support and congratulations to the Jenkins Lady Cavaliers, 2016 14th Regional Runner-up.

All-Time State Scoring Leader Whitney Creech Sets State All-Time Scoring Record

Jenkins guard Whitney Creech scored 71 points against Paintsville in overtime to become the all-time scorer in Kentucky at 4,957 Tuesday February 2, 2016 in Paintsville, Ky. Creech started the game 63 points shy of becoming the state's top scorer. (John Flavell/Special to the C-J)
