Gear-Up Week 2017 Gear-Up Week

National GEAR UP Week was September 18th – 22nd.

Burdine Elementary and Jenkins Middle High School participated in numerous activities to celebrate National GEAR UP Week.

The Jenkins Ind. Board of Education voted unanimously to create a new teaching position to address distance learning. 

UNITE Shoot Hoops Camp Schedule and Locations

UNITE Shoot Hoops Not Drugs Basketball Camp

  • FREE regional basketball skills camp conducted by former University of Kentucky four-time All-SEC Academic Team member Jarrod Polson
  • All school-age youth invited to participate
  • All youth receive free T-shirt and basketball
  • Water and food break provided
  • Participants entered into a drawing for 2 basketball goals to be given away at the conclusion of each camp
Summer Feeding

The Jenkins Independent School District is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.

Preschool, Headstart, Kindergarten Registration

Jenkins Independent School in collaboration with Jenkins LKLP Headstart will hold registration on April 11, 2017 from 3-5 pm.  Registration will be for next year’s preschool, Headstart and Kindergarten age children.  Registration will be held at Jenkins Elementary School. The Letcher County Health Department will be available for pre-enrollment physicals. The Jenkins Independent School District will hold a public forum to discuss Nutrition and Physical Activity within the school district on Monday, January 23, 2017 at  5:00 pm,  at the Jenkins Middle High School, 269 Hwy 3086, Jenkins, KY 41537. Knovation Jenkins Independent School District Honored as 2016 Top School District Using Classroom-Ready OER

     Jenkins Independent School District has earned a Digital Learning Award for using classroom-ready, aligned OER as they continue their commitment to engaged, personalized learning for every student.

     Presented by Knovation, the Digital Learning Awards Program recognizes the top 100 school districts who use the organization's applications to implement digital resources that are vetted, aligned and learning-ready for teachers and students.  Schools nationwide use Knovation’s applications to deliver more than 360,000 resources organized by grade level, content type, readability, subject and educational theme for use in the classroom and at home.

Letters to Santa Letters to Santa

On Tuesday November 21st, 2017 Jenkins Middle High School GEAR UP Club students, Destiny Heiston and Jacob Bentley, volunteered to assist students attending the Jenkins Family Resource after school program with writing letters to Santa.
